    The club's first photo critique of the year.  Participants may enter up to three photos on Photo Contest Pro on or before September 21.  The photo must be a nature photo i.e. birds, insects, plants, flowers, animals, etc.  It can also be a landscape without any man made objects.  We are distributing a list of questions for the participant to use to evaluate their own photos.  See attached:  Questions for Self Photo Critiques Final 08222020.docx  These will also be used to guide the critique. 


    You must be a member to use Photo Contest Pro.  It can be accessed at www.photocontestpro.com.  Photos must be jPEGS, no larger than 1050 on the longest side and be in the sRGB color space for best results.

    Photographic Basics with Nick Palmieri

    This session is designed for the Beginner/Intermediate Photographers.  Nick Palmieri will present 'Photography:  The Basics'.  His presentation will explore the basic elements of modern digital photography.  He will discuss " composition, the exposure triangle, the histogram, and basic image keywording, workflow and processing".


    Nick’s overview workshop is followed  with an ongoing novice user group, for Sparta Camera Club members. The group is led by Joy Hensen Schmitz, an award winning photographer and a long time Sparta Club member. The purpose of the group is to practice and master the basic elements of photography. The group’s design is informal, and  breaks down the use of the digital camera, one step at a time. There is a lots of interaction and suggestions for practice. Participants will learn to get off auto mode, and know when and how to use semi auto and manual modes to harness the capability of the digital camera.  The group has an ongoing emphasis on compositional elements and the power of light., Dates and times will be determined by availability of most participants.

    Japan: Architecture and Scenic Views with  Julian Elliott

    The Sparta Camera Club continues to meet online and is working to provide its members and visitors with a unique photography centered experience.  Using the WebEx online meeting platform, the Wednesday, October 14th program reaches outside the U.S.  to present the works of  British photographer Julian Elliott.  

     

     Elliott, a British photographer, is presenting a program on Japan: Architecture and Scenic Views.  The Japanese cityscapes – From Buddha to Blade Runner – Explore the old architecture of Japan to the newest. Starting in Himeji with its famous castle, going to Kyoto with its beautiful temples the talk ends in Tokyo with Blade Runner’s Esque architecture.

     

    Julian Elliott is an award-winning professional freelance landscape and travel photographer as well as an occasional writer based in the Loire Valley, France, but he also travels across Europe mainly in France, Italy, and the UK. In October 2015, one of his images was chosen as the winner of the Countryside is GREAT section of the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition held in conjunction with Visit Britain. In October, 2017 his image of Big Ben and the Shard entitled “A Shard of Ben” was commended in the Urban View category of the Landscape Photographer of the Year. His photography and stock footage have been sold across the world in nearly 40 countries through agencies such as Getty Images. 

     

    Members will receive an automatic invitation to this meeting.  Non-members need to sign up on Meetup.com, NJ Federation of Camera Clubs site to attend this meeting.

    Open Competition

    The club is hosting an open virtual competition at the October 28th meeting.  Members are invited to submit 3 images on the topic of their choice.  The competition is being judged by Paul Michael Kane. 


    The photos are entered via PhotoContestPro


    Sparta Camera Club members may submit  up to 3 photos for this competition.  Photos are  submitted on http://www.photocontestpro.com/  Photo Contest Pro. 


    Tips for Placing Images on Photo Contest Pro

    Digital Images

      

    1. Image files should  be converted to sRGB color space.
    2. Images must be JPEG’s.
    3. Images size must be 1050 pixels along the longest edge. .
    4. The photographer’s name, trademark and/or copyright may not appear on an image
    5. Photos entered into the contest may be used by the club on the club webpage
