This outing will focus on photographing the Harbor Seals that sunbath on the rocks.
The Harbor Seals start hauling out about an hour before low tide but is dependent on the wind direction. They usually stay on the rocks for quite some time unless startled by people and pets.
Sandy Hook has a collection of historic buildings, beaches and historic military grounds. There is a nicely restored lighthouse and Life Saving Station on the hook.
There is plenty of wildlife present including whitetail deer, red fox, migratory birds and sea ducks.
A long lens above 400 mm is best for the seals and birds. A tripod is highly recommended.
There are a lot of interesting subjects to shoot even if the seals are not available.
Please share your photos on Facebook.
There will be a brief lesson on tripod usage for those that are interested.
Please sign-up online on our club page for this event.
Do not feed the animals as the rangers are writing tickets for this offense.
